Three officers from Guyana participated in this one-week study tour, where they were exposed to Barbados’ legislation, procedures, and methods of conflict resolution. They were able to observe conciliation meetings and gained a comprehensive perspective through their participation in the Annual Employers Industrial Relations Seminar and interviews with worker unions.
As stated in the Final Report on the cooperation, the information gathered about the methods used in Barbados will be utilized by Guyana’s Ministry of Labor to operate in a more effective and efficient manner in dispute resolutions.
This cooperation furthers the support provided by the RIAL to Guyana’s Labor Department, considering that 80% of the officers within the Department have less than 3 years of experience in OHS and industrial relations.
