A delegation comprised of senior officers from Grenada’s Ministry of Labour visited with officers of Jamaica’s Ministry of Labour & Social Security to conduct a Study Tour. The objectives of the Study Tour were to learn how to improve the management of labour market information, to understand strategies used by Jamaica in the implementation of the LMIS (Labour Market Information System), gain understanding of the functioning of the MIS, and obtain skills in analyzing labour market information.
As a result of the cooperation, members of the Grenadian delegation were able to ascertain the importance of partnerships in creating an efficient and effective structure to support Labour Market Information Systems. The Grenadian team believes this particular lesson can be replicated locally. Creating a sound network with key stakeholders should be part of the genesis of the local implementation. The steps to follow involve identifying the most important actors to serve on a committee similar to LMITAC, creating such a committee, and seek funding to ensure the project is a success.
