Description:

Two officers from the Ministry of Labor and Labor Development of Panama received technical assistance on the operation of the Occupational Health and Safety system of Brazil. During this activity, the relevant themes which were addressed include accident statistics, national legislation, application of legislation in the construction industry, implementation of diverse prevention programs. The officers received firsthand information from experts of FUNDACENTRO and the Ministry of Labor of Brazil.

This activity allowed for the identification of the similarities in occupational safety in the construction industry.  It also provided the possibility of having a future training in OHS focusing on the port and maritime sector, given that Panama is in the process of ratifying the ILO agreement on maritime work. Additionally, the lessons learned will be used for consultations with the National Inspection Office and the Ministry’s library, through discussions, conferences and seminars.
